PRINCE2 Principles - overview
PRINCE2 Principles
In any method there are underpinning principles which ensure the method is effective, even if it is tailored. PRINCE2® Principles are based on experience from projects over many years. The principles are distinguishing between a PINO (PRINCE In Name Only) project and a real PRINCE2® project. If these principles are present in a project then it can be tailored and still be a PRINCE2® project. Principles can not be tailored.
The following apply to all principles of a PRINCE2® project:
- Universal - apply to every projects
- Self-validating – proven in practice over a period of years
- Empowering - Practitioners to shape project (self confidence)
- Continued business justification
- Learn from experience
- Defined roles and responsibilities
- Manage by stages
- Manage by exception
- Focus on products
- Tailor to suit the project environment
